Magic 0 Burleigh 3
After a below par performance last week the boys
were told before the match against last years champions Burleigh that a repeat
would not be tolerated. The first 15 minutes were very promising with us
dominating the football and the battle, 2 early chances to
Umet were not taken
and before the 20 minute mark Burleigh got a dodgy freekick just outside the 18
yard box which former Socceroo
Con Boustianous sent spinning into the danger
area, a hasty clearance by
Wes sent the ball into our net for an own goal
totally against the run of play. The rest of the half was quality from Magic as
we kept up the pressure and should have been awarded a penaly when
Digger was
wrestled down in the box ? somehow the ref missed that but once again awarded
Burleigh a soft freekick 5 minutes later which Con Boutsianuos once again put on
the button this time Burleigh scored again from a tap in.
In the sheds a half time it was hard to believe we
had nothing to show for our domination but this happens against the top teams
who seem to always get the rub of the green.
The second half was once again full of endeavour
from both sides with the large crowd entertained with some first class football,
I felt we matched Burleigh in all aspects except for finishing, a point which
was rammed down our throat when Bousty was once again awarded a freekick from 25
yards out which he duly pocketed into our net with a goal usually seen in
the English Premier League.
Even in the final 20 minutes we had enough chances
to get back into it but could not finsh. The boys and myself were proud of the
effort and hope it was appreciated by Magic Uniteds biggest ever
crowd.
Thanks for the support the atmosphere was
great.
Cheers
Brett
Youth
League Match Report
Magic 1 Burleigh 4
The youth
squad took the field on Sunday with a host of players injured and missing.
Having said that I believe we had the team to do the business against Burleigh.
After a slow start we found ourselves down by one very soft goal. We fought
back brilliantly and had control of the last 15-20mins. With about 5 minutes
from half time the boys put together some great combinations which saw YOUNG
Lindsay Corbell slot away a very impressive goal. We went into the sheds at
half time 1-1 and very confident. The boys were on top against one of the
hardest clubs in the league. Something happened on the way back to play second
the second half. We just fell apart and WE LET Burleigh walk in another 3 very
soft goals. The team seemed to forget something when they took the field for
the second half. It is something I have been looking for from them for some
time. It is something that they will need every game this year if they
really want to give this competition a shake. We will try to find it in the
next two weeks at training as we have a bye this Saturday. This THING answers
to a number of names. 'Mongrel', 'Heart", 'Aggression',
'Self Belief", ‘Team' or ‘Club". If we call
out loud enough IT may come running to us…….
Once again
many thanks to Lindsay, Connor and Chris for their assistance on Sunday.

Sunday 25/05/08
We finished at the top of our table after
defeating teams such as Musgrave, Merrimac, Coomera and Robina and made it
into the quarter finals. Quarter final was against Murwillimbah. After the
15 minute game was stuck at nil - all, we had to play an extra 2 x 5 minute
half's. Again at the end of the time we were stuck at nil - all.Things then got
tense and exciting as we went to penalty shootout. 5 players were chosen
-
Ben "Hammer" Hamlet, Luca "Stallion" Roselli, Max
"Boods" Dowd, Fraser "Cyclone" Solomon, and Joshua "Boots"
Biscoe - along with our goalie
Malik "Bomber" Kelada. Results were; Murrwillimbah shot for goal 3 times
and all 3 shots were saved by Malik. Therefore Magic had 3 shots at goal
and scored all 3 times - We got through!!!!!!
Semi-Final: We were up against Pacific Pines.
Another tough game and another nil - all result. Extended time and
"Cyclone"
scored in the last 30 seconds of the game. We're through!!!!
Grand Final time and we're all tired beyond
explanation but filled with excitement. Tense game, half time scores locked at
nil - all. Into second half and Nerang sneak one in. Unfortunately the one that
wins the tournament, and ends a very long day. They'd better watch out next
time!! Coach and parents so very proud of ALL of our young athletes. Well done
to the rest of the team -
Nick"Nitro" Mwangi, Tyrone "Titan" TeOka, Sophie
"Sizzler" Tomasoni, Brendan "Bruiser" Hogan, Brooke "Rookie" MacPherson and Sam
"The Man" Bailey.
They were true CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!

U10 Blue were very unlucky this week against
Mudgeeraba Yellow, losing 2 - 1.
Our boys played a very disciplined game. All boys
held their positions well and there were many examples of great buildup leading
to many shots on goal.
Jaylan Khatri made many saves and had a great
game.
Mason Ponton filled in as Centre Back for
Alex
Poletto (who was absent this week) - he did a fantastic job, breaking down many
attacking moves before they turned to shots on goal.
Kaysey Cowdery and
Mitchell Nye distributed well up
the flanks and ran well into positions of support for our forwards in
attack.
Oscar Carmock had to play a few different positions
throughout the game and he managed this very well.
Zac Gibbons and Jaydan Pankhurst did a lot of
running and spoiled many attempts by Mudgee to get the ball out of their
defence.
Jack Atkinson outplayed himself - he made good
position and linked up well with other players.
Alex Wild was our scorer - throughout the game he
made some good leads, linked up with the other forwards and was unlucky not to
score more goals.
Harry Rudd was also unlucky not to score - he did a
great job considering he was feeling poorly.
Hope you had a great birthday
Friday, Harry!!

Over the past few weeks all of our games have been decisive wins but thats not what excites me about this team. Every time they take to the field, the will to win, the skill and awareness used to play the ball from the back, midfield and the front, makes all the hard training worth it. Here are just some snippets & milestones from last weeks game:
This week we scored in the first 5 seconds of the game from a planned kick-off move that caught the defense napping. A slick kick-off by
Steve down the right side and an even sharper first time hit by
Joe from about 15 out, saw us go ahead and it was all smooth sailing from there.
Some of the milestones :Luke (goalkeeper) scored his first goal of the season after playing the second half up front, a cracking hit from about 8 out.
Sean kicked another this week making the most of his new found niche (the back post) to sniff out his opportunities, thats 5 for the year, Great Stuff.
Strong games again from the midfield
Max, Daniel, & Joe all scoring.
Daniel Hogan in defense was outstanding, coupled with
Sam Thom, & Bailie none of the opposition had a chance of passing them.
Joel scored some great goals its great to see him hitting the ball first time.
Thom didn't have much to do in goals second half, but think of it this way,
you have had your turn for the year.Hard to pick but
Luke won the man of the match this week for a great overall game in goals and on the field well done.
Well done boys I'm very Proud of you all.Mark FitzgeraldCoach U9
U 6 RED
What a game this was probably our best
performance of the year against such good competition. We had a 2-1 win
with every player contributing. James was ferrous in attack
where ever the ball was he was there menacing the opposition and was
unlucky not to have scored more than 1 goal. Cade was our other
goal scorer and showed his class and skills in the second half with a
few nice touches and his slid tackles were something we had not seen
before. Titan was our rock as usual at the back with his big tackles and clearing kicks, Matua in his second appearance for magic red is improving every week with some nice kicks and tackles. A J was proving a handful for the defence with his speed and skill. Deacon
had his best game of the season and showed what he is capable of with
some great defence and attack well done Deacon. All the boys used what
they were taught at training and it paid off in the game well done
Magic red.

Magic United Under 7 Blue 4 - 2 Nerang
Since coaching the team from there first day in Under 6's this was by
far the best performance yet over the two seasons. After already
playing this Nerang team twice this year it was great to get a win
against them after previous results ended in a loss and draw. Right
from the whistle the boys were fantastic and were battling hard to win
every ball.
Cooper Budwee again came up with the goods again and score
two great goals, and a
magic run by Gus Fitzgerald ended with a even
better finish to get his 2nd goal of the season. The Magic boys worked
very hard all the way to the end to pull off a brilliant result.
No
Player of the Day was awarded because it wouldn't of been fair to
single out one player.
Well done boys.. You did your club proud!
Thanks again
